January 11th-14th, 2005
After a slight detour on our trip to Rangi (Asumbi Area) we
arrived in one piece around twelve-thirty in the afternoon. Our driver from
Migori, Richard, made great time. It was a joy to be back at the Mission. We
were greeted by old friends from 2002. Bro. Joel's wife Sarah called us all by
name and made us very welcome. The Centre had received a coat of sky blue paint
that was put on by some Australian youth that were here last summer. The were
from the World Youth Organization. A secular organization dedicated to
getting youth out into the world to assist areas in need. They have also taken
up sponsorship of the Rangi Orphans to pay for their schooling.
After walking over the grounds for the Centre and
reviewing the blueprints for all the buildings we began to catch the vision for
this place in the heartland of Nyanza Province. May the Lord Jesus
help these plans come to pass to assist this small community and show His love
to the area. When we got back to the road section of the Centre we
went over to the trees that we had planted back in May of 2002. They had grown
substantially larger. There were also ones in the backyard area which had also
seen good growth. Praise God! So good to be back where it is like home. After
an afternoon of rest and playing with the children we moved into the meat of the
meetings.
The sunset was beautiful as it headed down in the west over the
distant Lake Victoria (60 km). As the night came the clouds moved in and out and
the stars appeared and disappeared. The children of the Centre sang for
about an hour and then the adults joined in with a wonderful chorus of
sound. As we were being introduced, the rain began to fall as it had three
years ago. Bro. Okoth's (David) name means the one who brings the rain. After
the introductions, Bro. Arne shared on being persecuted for Christ, and being
willing to do so. That God would reward us for our stand. ...the godly in
Christ shall suffer persecution... We were very tired and we slept very
soundly with all the Nahor brothers together in one room.
In the morning we were greeted by the sound of the rooster and
some songbirds. We had a simple breakfast and then headed next door for the
morning meetings. Tim sang a spirit song and then taught on the heart of Mary
Magdalene. It showed how she sought after Jesus at all costs. Tim sang "Come
In!", then afterwards Bro Joe taught on the need for forgiving our
brothers and he gave a great testimony of how he came back to the Lord after
years of living in bitterness. Those who wanted prayer came forward and received
the laying on of hands.
While we were eating lunch the rain began to fall again for a
refreshing short time. We got together in the afternoon again where Bro. Arne
shared on 1 Peter and the trials which we endure. After a long nap where we all
crashed for over an hour we broke for a dinner break of beef, rice, potatoes,
cabbage. After dinner we began the night session. We began it early tonight at 8
o'clock. After intense praise and worship and we do mean intense David shared.
When we say that the praise and worship was intense we mean intense. The hand
clapping and singing were very powerful. When Tim took pictures of it there is
one picture were Bro. Joel was barely visible through the "bubbles."
Once again these "bubbles only showed up in certain pictures during the
intense worship. There are times that they don't show up at all. Apaki Jesu!
Tim sang a prophetic song on the Shepherd and the sheep and then
another on Praising the Lord. Joseph Oduol is beginning to understand that he
needs to translate Tim on these occasions. Very powerful. There was a drunk man
that came. Everyone at first wanted to through him out but David and Joel
brought him in to hear the message. David shared on Revelation 3:20 and the Lord
knocking at our doors to come in and sup with us. After the message, David did
an altar call and the man who was inebriated came forward. After much work he
repented and came to the Lord with many tears. We then prayed for all the
people. This was the biggest crowd that we ever had in this place. It was full
with people outside. When the rains came again more packed in. We laid down at
11:30 p.m. and were out in minutes. See you in the morning for another exciting
day with the Lord Jesus and His Body. Amen!
In the morning session, after a wonderful breakfast of African
"Beigniers" Donuts [sic.] Tim taught on the reality of what God thinks
of as His masterpiece and that if God is for us who will be against us in Romans
8. After a short break Arne shared on the Life of Peter and the change
that was wrought in his life when he came to realized who was living in him.
That the risen Lord was working through him to stand up and ...obey God
rather than men... After the break David and the team prayed with each who
wanted prayer. If the Lord inspired them to give prophetic words they were given
to the glory of God. People waited for over three hours to be ministered to by
the team. It was very inspiring as we saw the Lord work through all the team
members and peoples hearts and lives were healed.
After supper, we began the evening service at 9:00 p.m. By 9:30
p.m. the place was full again. Joe share on the baptism of the Holy Spirit
manifested through speaking in tongues. Around 5-10 received the baptism for the
first time. It was a blessing to see. After this Bro. Joel brought all the team
up to say their departing statements. This went on for a long time as there were
songs in between and Bro. Tim also was asked to sing. He sang a prophetic
song about his journey to Rangi and that they were family. It was translated so
that the congregation was very blessed. The team also sang "Who is Like
the Lord" for the congregation and they actually sounded good. The
people thoroughly enjoyed it. After much, much prayer for the team, we all shook
the congregations hands and headed of to bed. Our watches said a new day
[Friday] had just begun.
We leave Rangi with our
hearts open wide. We love this place of
refreshing in the middle of ... Before we go we are baptizing the man [Solomon,
Peace] along with 4 others who got saved the other night. Two of them have the
last name Oniango as our Bro. Joe's is in Luo. What a transformation in this fellow. He
is a changed man. He used to be a teacher in the school but lost his job and
family because of his drinking. He has friends in the church who will help him
in his new life in Christ. A New Creation in Christ. Praise Jesus Christ for His
grace and mercy which endure forever. He is truly good, all the time. David was
asked to perform the baptisms, so they went down to the dammed up creek in the
back of Joel's property and performed them there. Was an awesome time. David
gave the famous "church" bible to Job Salim who is one of the orphans at Rangi. He is
going back to secondary school in February and is doing very well. He was very
thankful for the gift as he is an avid reader of English material. He said that
he would be preaching the gospel from it very soon. David finally had his
picture taken with Joel & Sarah's [not soon to be] youngest daughter, David
Skovel Otuoma. Sarah told the story the night before of how the Lord woke her up
before the delivery of this child and told her to name "it" that. Even
after it turned out to be a girl she had another dream in which he reiterated
this to her again. I hear a Johnny Cash type song coming on.
