Kisumu Rangi Migori N. Kinangop Aberdare
Our Missionaries:
Join us on our recent trip to Kenya, where we will be ministering in Kisumu, Migorii, Asumbi, Engineer and Gathara. We will attempt to update these pages on a consistent basis. So please logon and join us as we relay how God is moving in the country where they say "Yes" to God.
Ken = (Hebrew) "yes" Yah = (Hebrew) "Yahweh" KENYA "Yes GOD!"
We left JFK on April 25, 2002 for the first mission trip that Bible Rock Ministries has put together. We were headed for Kenya to be with three pastors that we have established relationships with over the past few years. During the trip we were to be ministering in Kisumu, Rangi (Asumbi), Migori and North Kinangop. Our missionaries are Pastors David Scovel and Arne Yaghsizian along with our dear brother Joe Cahill (MIT) Minister in Training.
Our British Airways flight was to arrive at Heathrow
Airport at about 10:30 a.m. We then had a 12-hour layover in London, where we
decided to take the Underground into the city and see all the sights. We had a
great time riding the subs and buses. We saw sights like the Houses of
Parliament, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, the Tower of London and Big
Ben. We got to ride on one of those “double Decker” buses (boy, are they
slow). Bro. Joe finally got to see one of those English phone booths made famous
by the British series, “Dr. Who.” God is good, all the time. We walked
through the maze that is Harrods Department Store. Quite different from when I
was there in 1973. It now had an Egyptian motif. After that, we ate at
Paxton’s Head, a pan-Asian restaurant. We all had different spicy foods from
the orient. Sooo good. We then headed back to catch the 7-hour flight to
Nairobi.
Upon our arrival in Nairobi Pastor John Kairu met us. He
guided us to the Kenya Airways Terminal where we were to board the Kenya
Flamingo flight to Kisumu. Pastor John had already picked up our tickets and
greeted in the name of the Lord. While checking in we saw our old friend from
Hartford, Pastor Neal Boyd. He had just flown in from Kisumu where he spent 16
days with Apostle Otuoma in the jungle. He was joyous to see us. He then was on
his way back to the States. Our flight was bumpy aboard the 32-seater twin
engine. The plane bounced as we hit the runway, but there we were in Kisumu.
Pastor Otuoma greeted us with Kenyan greetings. He along took us to our home where we would be stating. It was on the outskirts of town. It was arranged for us to have half of a very nice house. The landlady named Uwalinda who lived on the other side of the house was a Christian. We met the women who would be making our meals for us in the morning and night. The one who spent the most time with us was a lovely saint named Mary. We learned about the African bathrooms and showers. The bathrooms were buried in the floor. You just have to see it yourself. To take showers we had a tub and a pitcher. Good thing it was in its own separate room. They heated the water for us in the mornings for us. We wanted the African experience we got it.
We only spent a very short time before we headed out to
begin ministry. We blessed the house and met Bro. Joseph Odoul. Bro. Joel took
us first to the Tilapia Resort Inn on Lake Victoria. There we had our first
taste of “ungali” along with Tilapia, a very tasty local fish. Only we were
not given utensils. We were shown how to roll the “hot” ungali and use it to
scoop up the Tilapia. It hurt our fingers and our brothers from Kenya said we
had weak hands. After they laughed a bit, they brought us the utensils. We had a
blessed time.
We headed out to our first place of ministry, which was
the NCP (New Covenant Pentecostal) Church at Nanga. David
taught on the same old stuff we always hear at church. Only the Kenyans were
blessed mightily. Seven saints received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and spoke
in tongues for the first time. They were hungry and received very easily with
God’s power being manifested. We all received our African names in the Luo
dialect. Joe was anointed as “Joseph ” which means, “It
is good to be here” and “the morning sun that warms the old man’s
back”. Arne was anointed as “Arne Ochieng” which means the “the
noonday sun which shines brightly”. David received the name, “David
Okoth”, which means “the rain which comes and bring forth fruit”.
These followed us all through “Luoland”. It was quite the full day.
Sunday, we got up had a tea with some hardboiled eggs and
bread then headed out to the NCP Main church just down the street from
us. Arne preached and Joe taught (not preaching yet) Arne shared on the “Receiving Word of God” and then Joel fed the church with bread and soda so they
would not go home. Joe then taught on “Unity and Unforgiveness” and
people came up and there was a powerful corporate repentance for their sins and
unforgiveness. Some people were led to the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Sunday we headed out to Rhema Mission in the slums
of Kisumu. Before getting there we stopped at Joel’s Kisumu house and blessed
it. It rained as we were there. As we entered into the Church, there were twenty
to thirty children that were marching into the church singing, “we are
soldiers in the army of the Lord”. We had met Pastor Sebastian at the
other services in town. He wanted us to come and minister in his church. David
preached on the millennial kingdom of Christ. It was a powerful time in the Lord
as we ministered at the end. Pastor Sebastian wanted us to come and bless his
house before we left.
On Monday we went to Nyamasaria with Pastor
Churchill Obund. This church was on the outskirts of Kisumu. We had to walk the
final leg to the church because the rain had washed out the road to the
building. We had an excellent time there. We ministered there for around 6
hours. It was a very sweet time with the choir led by a man named Henry. Arne
taught on the Promised Land “God’s Dwelling Place”. David taught
about the Holy Spirit and ministered in the casting out of demons. There was
much wrenching convulsing and coughing as people were delivered. Praise God for
His deliverance. Our King Yesu definitely rules. The people
followed us as we walked back to the van. They sang song after song as we
walked. When we arrived at the van they went into a “spirit song” about all
of us. One man was under the power of God as he sang the words that the Holy
Spirit brought forth.
When headed out from the church we headed out to the
Imperial Hotel, where we waited for our brother Kevin Porter. We had told him we
would like to have dinner with him while there. He shoed up shortly and we had a
great meal in the Victoria Room of this very nice Hotel. It could be called a
four star in this land. There are no better accommodations for miles. After
praying we all split up and said our goodbyes. God is doing mighty things with
Bro. Kevin. May the Lord Jesus continue to grant him favor in these lands. We
headed out to Joel’s once again before going back to the house.
On Tuesday we had early visitors that came for prayer.
Robert came with his uncle Charles and brother Bryan. Robert needed prayer for
some things going on in his body and heart. After praying we ministered the Holy
Spirit to the both of them as the uncle already spoke in tongues. Yesu opake
(Praise Jesus) Mary our hostess then came in with her daughter who wasn’t
feeling well. We prayed for her and saw a great change in her countenance. We
then left and were on Kenya time again as we drove and walked around downtown
Kisumu for over two hours. It was still a great time. Joel bought Pastor David
an African Bohdran (Drum) and some gifts for our wives and kids. He has such a
great heart for people. We then headed out to Rangi about twelve thirty. Bros.
Joseph and Emanuel came with us. We arrived in the early afternoon. It was
distance of about 90 km. What a place.
