On Friday we awoke with no power or water. They had cut the power off early in the night on Thursday. The water had not been filled by the city since Wednesday. The night started with much rain and that continued all the way through until daybreak. Cody led the devotions with much consternation beforehand. He was having a difficult time getting ready to cover a section of Scriptures. He felt he had to teach instead of just reading the section and saying how you felt about it. P. Oliver and P. Lubin comforted and helped him to where he was able to read Romans 8:33-38 with much confidence.
We
once again headed out to the seminar in sunshine. Yehhhh! When we got there it
rained again a couple of minutes later. Joe Cahill taught on 1 Corinthians
12:1-11 and the evidences (manifestations) of the Holy Spirit. We used a lot of
examples from both scripture and his life. One attendee got up and spoke in
tongues and interpreted. The question and answer session afterward was extremely
lively due to them being unable to ask questions from David's session on tongues
the day before.
There is much confusion regarding the operation of the Holy Spirit in a
person's life. The is too much religious upbringing and that mixed with culture
makes for a messy thing. With the "voodoo" influence around for so
long, it has clouded the understanding. They want so much to be
"pushed" by the Holy Spirit to speak in tongues. If I don't feel the
Holy Spirit then why should I speak in tongues. It reminds me of 1 Corinthians
12:2 where Paul reprimanded the Corinthian church for following dumb idols even
as THEY WERE LED. David stood up and shared the Scriptures where Paul was in
Athens and talked to them about being too religious. God has given them free
will to decide to evidence this important aspect of the Christian walk. Pray for
these saints that they receive what they have been taught.
Before
Arne taught the afternoon session P. Jean-Phares spent some time reproving the
students for sitting in back and talking during the question and answer periods.
They would go back and discuss among themselves what they thought regarding the
questions. After 45 of this Arne covered the fruit of the Spirit in
the life of a believer. After his teaching he once again made it available for
the students to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. There were sixteen that
came up to receive. There was one former "deep deep Baptist" (his
words) minister who during all the other times this was made available had said
that he was not ready. But this time he came forward and received with great
joy. He previously had over seven years of seminary, been a pastor for over
thirty years and had stated that he had never heard teachings like this
before on this subject matter. Praise God!
After
going back to the mission house, we rested a bit and headed back out to church
for the evening service. Once again the praise and worship was powerful and was
great preparation for Arne sharing on The Promise of the Father. After a
short teaching on the subject he invited those who would like to, to come up and
receive the promise of the Father, being clothed with power from on high, or
more commonly the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Twenty-two adults and older
children to receive. P. Jean-Phares gave most of the instruction in this group
and twenty of congregants receives and spoke with other tongues. Many of these
were very bold and fluent right from the start. What a wonderful night in the
Lord. God is good all the time. Now it is time to send out the seventy and have
them return with joy.
