Today was another day of work on the missions house at
Pastor Jean-Phares'. The
work is coming along as you will view the pictures that accompany this writing.
We have actually begun to work well with the Haitian workers even though we do
not speak the same language. We have also begun to know which part of the job
that we each work on. This way the work goes smoother.
We divided up the group somewhat in the morning. Pastors Mark Angerosa and Arne Yaghsizian along with Craig Clift went to the "Deacons Prayer and Fasting" at the church. There were about 40 men and women (ratio 1:3) there and they told us it was very powerful. They prayed, sang hymns, sang in the spirit... There was a time that they even turned and faced each direction (i.e. north, south, east and west) and shouted and proclaimed God's blessings upon the land of Haiti. Afterwards, the group laid hands on the men of the team. Then, children were prayed for, and others. Quite a powerful witness of fervent prayer.
Later in the day after lunch, three of the team,
(Craig Clift, Rob Mate, Bill Bowe) went back to the church to look at the electrical system. They have been
having problems with the wiring when the generator is on. For those of you that
have never been here before, they area is on rolling blackouts. Parts of the
city only get power at certain times of the day. There is no 24 hour power here.
That is of course except for the Holy Spirit. There is always power there. You
also do not know what time of day you will be getting that power, so sometimes
it is there, sometimes not. Our Hotel gets power most of the time due to its
local of being next to the Police Station.
All the clothes and goods that we brought down were sorted out so that now Sister Gardinette (wife of Pastor Jean-Phares) can begin to distribute these among the needy. They primarily go to those in the church that have need, then others in the area. We noticed that one of the workers had shoes that had no toes. They were flopping all around. Sarah Clift brought this young man a new pair of donated Nikes. He gladly accepted them and set them aside. All the other workers seemed to be laughing of sorts. The next thing I see is our worker with a completely different pair of sneakers on his feet. He had tossed his others out and put on what used to be his dress pair, since now he had a brand new pair. I guess you never can tell. That is why we really need to walk by the spirit of the Living God to meet the needs down here.
For those of you with inquiring minds our teens are getting along wonderfully.
They have been diligent workers and have contributed a lot to the vitality of
the team. They keep it fresh and alive with their presence down here. As the
picture shows we must be wearing them out. Either that or they were catching
more than a few rays. Amen!
Our service was wonderful at night. The team from the Bible Rock part of the
Body of Christ was introduced and all got to speak and introduce the next
brethren. Pastor Dave Scovel played harmonica to a tune that he fell in love
with the last time down here. It speaks of God's deliverance to his people. God
always wins! He was joined up on the riser by Pastor Lubin and by Bro. Jolince
Bro. Jolince had been given a harmonica by Pastor Dave the last time down. He has
gotten quite good. Pastor Dave then "preached" on "grace
that has appeared to all men." It was said that there were four salvations
during the message. Beni swa l'eternel! Glwa Jeze!
