Thursday
has been another fine hot workday. The workers were there when we arrived at Pastor
Jean-Phares' home. Today we needed to get more sand up to the work level. In
order to do this we needed to first sift the sand across the street. Once it
sifted it was moved to the side of the house and had to be lifted up to the work
level by rope and bucket. All were very involved in this, the girls included.
What made this enjoyable was the dropping of the bucket back down. The goal was
to flip it and have it land straight up on the sand pile below. That was not
completed until the middle of the afternoon, by Rachel.
The
work on the second floor has proceeded faster than anyone thought. We will
finish the walls on Friday. As you can see with the smile on Pastor Mark's face,
that the block work is done with the joy of our Lord Jesus Christ in our
hearts. It would seem that we will not get to see the support columns poured
though. They need to be formed up and that takes time. We have also cleaned up
the worksite. Before we came all the masonry debris was scattered all over the
place, Now it is in piles and can be used as filler material for the columns.
After
a hard day we are able to headed back to the Concorde Hotel to freshen up
for the evenings service. Our host Micheline has been a blessing. We have
not been eating our meals at the standard times. We eat breakfast as usual. For
lunch we eat between 1 and 2 p.m., while for supper (dinner) we eat this after
the nightly service. This usually around 10 p.m. It seems to work out very
nicely. By the way, for those of you who have never been here. The Haitian food
is a wonderful fare. I cannot describe it to you. You will have to experience
their blessed hospitality for yourself. Your more information on participating
with BEM visit their website at www.bemhaiti.org
We
finally finished with the sorting of the duffel bags of supplies. After the
initial sorting, the supplies were divided up and marked for certain families to
be distributed by Sis. Gardinet. The need for supplies and over the
counter medicines is crucial. Even the most basic things are hard to come by. If
the local store has it is probably too expensive. The people of this community
are very thankful for whatever we can do to help them. Jesus tells us
that if we see a need and neglect that someone, we are in danger of judgment (Matthew
25). Let us not be weary in doing well. We will reap the fruit when it
ripens (Galatians 6.9,10).
Once again the service at night was a
hoppin' place. The spirit
of the Lord moves mightily during the praise and worship. What an
experience. To feel the power and presence of the Holy Spirit is overwhelming. Pastors
David Scovel and Tim Plake were able to do a favorite song of theirs
called "Lord, I Believe." The congregation loved it so much that want
them to do it again on Friday. Beni swa l'eternel!
Pastor Arne Yaghsizian then preached a powerful message
on freedom in Christ. Jesus Christ came to set us free. Free from all the
bondage of the enemy. Many people came up to be prayed for, that they might know
the Son (truth) and be set free. Although we've been preaching a salvation
message it has had its focus on growing in their relationship with Christ
after coming to Him. "Where the spirit of the Lord is there is
freedom!"
