Today
is the day that we headed back to Portapres (Port au Prince). We took two
vans. Bro. Jolince and Bro. Yvonne were once again or drivers. Pastor
Jean-Phares came back with the group for the first time. It was to check a
couple things out while we are there.
There
was a bit of confusion as to where we were to meet so we started out a bit late
and met at a gas station around 20 miles outside of town. In the confusion we
got to see the columns that we poured. The forms had been taken off and we could
clearly see the work.
It
was a hot ride and a few of the team were not feeling extremely well. We had to
make a couple stops to take a break. One was in Miragoane, at the market
in the middle of the road. Pastor Mark said it reminded him of the bar
scene from the original Star Wars. The other was at the "Rest
Area" a little bit further up the road.
Once
we got past Leogane, we ran into a bit of trouble when the gray van ran
bone dry in the radiator and would not start again. Bro. Gardy, who had
come along for the ride, went and got some water. Praise our Lord Jesus Christ.
After a few minutes, it started back up. In the meantime Pastor Lubin's
sister-in-law Rose got off a "tap-tap" (taxi truck) coming back
from PauP. She is married to Lubin's brother, Joel, who is also a
pastor in Leogane. Sometimes we stop at his place for the night on the
way back. Tonight we were headed someplace different. Quite a God meeting.
The
traffic in PauP is horrendous. It is also a place where the senses are
bombarded. Sights, sounds and smells of every sort. We were on our way to the Norwich
Mission House located at 60 Delmar 2 bis. In is a mission house run by the Catholic
Diocese of Norwich in CT. It is a haven of rest in the midst of much
turmoil. Fr. Gerry King was our host. Pastor Mark brought us all
around for a trip debriefing. The testimonies showed who the people of Haiti had
touched many hearts. We had two excellent meals and a nights sleep all for a
fair price. After dinner we worshipped and hung out on the veranda and looked at
the lights of the mansions high above us.
In the morning, we headed off to the airport where we await the flight home. Quite an adventure once again. To all those who have supported us to come here, including and most importantly, our families! Maybe next time you will join us too!
Final Update: The team arrived safely at JFK and home late last night and we are once again in the throngs of those who we love and hold dearest. Yet we cannot and will not forget the love that the saints of Haiti have shown us and ministered to us in very special ways. May the Lord Jesus reward them for their work of faith and patience of hope and love for all the saints.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all!
