Friday
was a hot one. That is not to say that all the days are in the mid 90's. This
one was in the upper 90's. By the middle of the day every one was exhausted.
That is everyone would was working on the house. Some of the girls got to go
into town to the market with Sis. Gardinette and Sis. Joann. The
team affectionately calls this market K Mart. It is a wonderful, exotic
place filled with colors, smells and sights. Both Sarah and Jackie were
astounded and the animal heads being sold. It is quite the hodgepodge.
The
work on the house progressed a bit more slowly as the workers had to put the
final touches on the last two rooms. There were five windows that they had to
get the correct measurements for. Most of the work was pulling the sand and
coarse sand up in buckets. We had to bring the coarse sand up so that it would
be there to make the slurry for the posts as we pour them. We had some young
children from the neighborhood that were a great help. James, Lubno
and Ezekiel kept up with us as we shoveled and moved the
sand.
At
the end of the day we poured our first post. It took a bit of tweaking as one of
the wires broke the first time. All of the slurry leaked out of the bottom of
the form. After fixing it, we had to make sure that the cement bags that we were
using as side seals were in there tight. This is quite primitive yet very
effective. Tomorrow we should be pouring the others. It will be our last day of
work, as Sunday we are in church quite a bit and Monday we will travel back to Portapres
(Port au Prince) as the natives say it.
During
a break, Pastor Tim got to help a young man in the area with some songs for his
guitar. You should have heard the harmony on "Yes Jesus Loves Me."
There were all these boys that showed up when the y heard the music and it
sounded so "heavenly."
While
we were up on the roof we noticed that the electrical wire to the roof had
broken a ways away from the house. We sent our crack team of electricians out to
make the reparations. Throw a makeshift ladder on the truck. Grab some
electrical tape and off we go. Rob, Craig and Ray went off on the
mission. That right, Mateclift Electrical Co. was on the job. There were
already so many splices as you can see. But they got the job done in fine
fashion.
The
teens went to the church to teach the children Bible stories. Sarah has
been quite a blessing for them. She has a great heart to communicate God's love
for them. Jonathan startled the kids when he played dead for one of the stories.
Some of the children thought that he was because he did such a good job. The
teens have been a bit tired but they are sure a group of troopers for the Lord
Jesus. Glwa Jeze!
We have built quite a camaraderie here. It has not been without its difficulties, both emotionally and physically. Little things crop up as they usually do, yet as we walk in love we are all able to restore others in the spirit of meekness. God is good! Praise the Lord!
Pastor
Mark shared on Jesus being the door of the sheepfold. That as the sheep go
in and out to find pasture that have to continually go through that door. We
must continually go in and out through Jesus. If we try to climb over and not go
through the door we are robbers and thieves. He pointed to all the shepherds
(pastors) of God's people that they as the keepers of the door must be leading
people to and through the door. Otherwise they would not be true shepherd of the
DOOR. Until tomorrow, Beni swa l'eternel!
P.S. Thanks for all your help and suggestions on the site. We have read all your emails to us. My lovely wife Linda emailed me and said that this website has been great, yet there were not many pictures of me, since I was taking most of the pictures. I have included a couple here just for her and the boys.
